Gather Around an Indoor Gas Fireplace for Quality Time Spent with Family

While a fireplace is meant as a source of heat for some, for many others it's a focal point of the home where family members spend time laughing and bonding on cooler nights. Instead of always spending time with your family in front of a TV, why not try something different and make it a point to have family time around your indoor gas fireplace, wood burning fireplace, or electric fireplace?

Ways to Bond Around Your Indoor Gas Fireplace

Of course, sitting around the fireplace and just being together is one way to bond, but that can become unfortunately boring after a while. That's why we created this list of ways that you and your family and friends can stay entertained while hanging out around your indoor gas fireplace instead of being silent in front of a television.

Tell Stories

Ever hear of telling stories around a campfire? This is a similar concept except, well, it takes place in front of your indoor fireplace rather than outdoors. One way to go about telling stories around your fireplace is to talk about your favorite memories involving the people who are there with you. Or, you could play a story game where one person starts a story and after a minute or so passes the story off to the person next to them. This is a creative way for your family to work together while having fun and creating memories along the way.

Sing Songs

Another great way to bond with your family in front of your indoor gas fireplace or other type of indoor fireplace is to have a sing along. Bust out an acoustic guitar or other instrument and start singing some of your favorite tunes. Don't have any instruments? That's fine! Use your smart phone to create a playlist on Spotify and see who can sing the best version of Top 40 hits. However you choose to do it, singing songs is a great way to spend time together while having a blast.

Play Games

While telling stories and singing songs can be turned into games, there are plenty of other games that can be played in front of the fireplace, too! These games include, but are not limited to:

  • Telephone

Telephone is a classic game that is fun for all ages. Participants should sit in a circle and choose one player to begin. The first player will come up with a sentence and whisper it in the ear of the person beside them. That person will then try to remember the sentence and whisper it in the ear of the person next to them and so on and so forth. Once the message reaches the last person in the circle, they will repeat it out loud. The best part is that the message rarely ends up being the same as the original!
  • I Spy

This is a simple game that is great for everyone in the family. The person who is “it” will choose and object in the room. They'll then say “I spy with my eye something ____” and describe the object with one word such as the color of the object or a texture, etc. The other players will have to guess what object they're referring to. Whoever guesses the object gets to go next.
  • Charades

Another classic game to play by the fire is charades. A chosen player will have to act out the name of a movie, person, animal, or other object of choice without using any words. The person who guesses correctly gets to go next.
  • Two Truths and a Lie

In this game, each person who is playing will choose two true statements about themselves as well as one lie. Each person will go around the circle and say their three statements while the other players have to determine which is the lie. This is a fun way to see how well you know your family and friends!

These are just a small number of the seemingly infinite amount of games and activities that you and your family may enjoy while sitting by your indoor gas fireplace, but it's enough of a list to get an idea of all the fun to be had! So what are you waiting for?
